Now the festive season’s hustle and bustle is over, it’s the perfect time to freshen up your home. To help get you started, Dulux colour and communications manager Andrea Lucena-Orr talks us through the top interior trends and key colour schemes we’ll be seeing this year.

1. Warm Tones

We’ll be seeing an increase in warmer tones. Think palettes with yellow and pink undertones that appear as “clay hues and reddy-browns, olive green and accents of pale blue and zesty yellow”, explains Lucena-Orr. “These predominant hues are a reflection of post-pandemic life. The Dulux Solstice palette in particular, includes natural, golden hues that exude a beautiful radiance, evoking feelings of security and warmth in the home.”

2. Mix it up

A nice balance between maximalism and minimalism, expect mid-tone shades to saturate the interior space. “In 2024, we are seeing some lightness in colour, however the majority of shades are mid-tone with darker shades predominantly being used for accents,” says Lucena-Orr.

A quick way to add some colour to your space is by sprucing it up with some vibrant decor. You’ll be surprised at how a block-coloured cushion can instantly transform a space, and if you’re feeling bold, why not get out a paintbrush? “Mid-tone colours are best used on all four walls, particularly in bedrooms and living spaces, and can create a central theme with rich golds, olive greens and reddy-browns at the forefront,” says Lucena.

3. Upcycle furniture

There’s no need to go out and splurge on a new piece of furniture. A snazzy paint job can bring new life to a beloved piece.

“Colour is a fantastic way to breathe life into pre-loved furniture and other items,” says Lucena-Orr. “Coffee, bedside and hall tables, as well as cabinets, planter pots and sculptural vessels can all be revamped.”  Adding pops of colour throughout your space is a great way to freshen up the home without blowing the budget.

4. Curves and soft textures

Gone are the days of harsh, defined features. Instead we’ll continue to see a pattern of rounded shapes and curved edges.

“Stick to organic and rounded shapes in furniture and patterns, so that you can keep the feeling of the space casual and inviting,” says Lucena-Orr, who adds that this also extends to decor. “Opting for lighter textures through decorating, such as linen and cotton in bedding and textiles, and including throws and cushions, will ensure your space feels comfortable and welcoming.”

5. Create Balance

Don’t be afraid to mix-and-match textures and pair with brighter colours. A boucle couch can work in perfect harmony with a buttery yellow wall.

“This year is all about a balanced interior, with a move towards richer colours and an overall sophistication of our home spaces,” explains Lucena-Orr. “Colour is an emotive transformation tool which can help you feel connected to your space.”

Play around with colour combinations and a mixture of textures to create depth and add character to your home.
