The Broadbeach precinct and famous stretch of coastline is right across the road, yet you can easily spend a weekend at The Star Gold Coast without venturing outside the well-manicured grounds.

Having undergone one of Australia’s most expensive hotel refurbishments, it now offers a host of dining and drinking options to keep you busy all weekend long. With its sun lounges and daybeds, the pool at the Star Grand hotel is an idyllic place to kick off the weekend in style and enjoy some of that glorious Gold Coast sunshine.

Sun-kissed, we are peckish but not wanting to ruin our dinner at Kiyomi, Chase Kojima’s award-winning Japanese eatery, so we pop into the new Mei Wei Dumplings for a hawker-style bite before retreating to our Executive Deluxe room at the Star Grand for an afternoon nap.

Later on, we glam up and head to Garden Kitchen & Bar for pre-dinner drinks and a serve of delicious spanner crab cakes. The atmosphere is lively, and the signature vanilla and passion fruit martinis definitely live up to the hype. Thankfully, I didn’t overindulge earlier in the day, as our dinner at Kiyomi is one of the most memorable Japanese meals of my life.

For a nightcap, we head up to Nineteen at The Star, packed with glamorous revellers drinking and dancing. There is a cover charge and a lengthy queue but the Coast’s hottest new venue – complete with an infinity pool – is well worth a look.
