After closing out Love Island Australia, season four, fans had one question and one question only: which couples are still going strong outside the Villa?

And for the 2022 season, the question was even more loaded since the filming of the show wrapped months before the finale aired on television. Now, almost two years after the season first aired, fans have even more questions. Which couples stayed together? Which split in the following months? Are any still together?

Love Island doesn’t quite have the best track record for happy-ever-after stories (apart from a rare few), but we’re hoping this season has some luck!

Claudia and Austen

Claudia and Austen were undeniably one of the strongest couples of the season, with fans and fellow contestants alike, wishing the best for the pair.

And before the couple won the season, fans had a sneaking suspicion that the pair were still dating, especially after a source revealed to the So Dramatic! Podcast that they spotted the pair on a date outside the Villa.

Now, in 2024 Claudia and Austen are still together, regularly sharing glimpses into their relationship with fans online.

“We are officially boyfriend and girlfriend now, still together and still in love,” Austen shared with WHO after the finale aired.

“It’s been really good, better on the outside than in the Villa,” added Claudia.

Phoebe and Mitch

Mitch Eliot and Phoebe Spiller were one of the strongest couples on Love Island Australia during the season, which may come as a surprise since the pair had their fair share of ups and downs during their time in the Villa.

Despite their rollercoaster relationship, the couple had a strong two years after making the final three in the Villa, regularly sharing updates with fans online.

It came as a surprise to fans in July 2024 when Phoebe and Mitch announced their separation.

“I honestly never thought I’d be writing this…but unfortunately Mitch and I have separated,” Phoebe shared on her Instagram stories.

“As you can imagine, I have been a wreck and not in a good head space as of lately, so I’d really appreciate it if you guys don’t ask questions or make assumptions. As much as I wanted him to be my forever, we ended up wanting different things. Regardless of that though, I will always love him.”

Mitch took to Instagram to share his own announcement of the couple’s split, telling fans; “Unfortunately me and Phoebe have decided after two years that we would go our separate ways.”

“Never thought I’d be one to make a breakup post but I feel like it’s needed so we can focus on getting through this and moving on.”

“Phoebe, we fell in love the day we met and from then on you showed what it’s like to be so bloody loved. you gave me an amazing two years and I can’t thank you enough for that. But we need time to grow as our pwn people. I still love you very very mich and will still always be backing you.”

Shortly after the former couple shared their separate split announcements, Phoebe took to TikTok to shed more light on the situation.

Sharing a video she filmed eight days after their breakup, Phoebe explained in the pre-recorded video she was dreading sharing news of their split with the world. “It’s terrifying…I feel like it [the breakup announcement] makes it more real.”

“It’s only been eight days, all I do is cry, it’s awful…this is the worst feeling ever,” she added, before asking fans for advice on getting through heartbreak.

In a later video, she revealed the split came as a surprise, telling fans she was expecting an engagement ring but instead “got dumped on a random Thursday.”

Callum and Madeline

Callum and Madeline were the dark horses of the season, with fans surprised they made it to the top three. Although they did appear smitten in the early stages of their relationship, fans were interested to see if they could make their relationship work outside the Villa!

Callum and Madeline spoke exclusively to WHO about where their relationship stands after leaving the Vill, explaining that they were keeping things “casual,” visiting each other a few times since filming wrapped.

Since then, the pair has publicly confirmed they were not “together.”

Al and Jess

Fans were surprised when Al and Jess left the Villa the night before the finale and despite their strong relationship throughout the season – it just wasn’t meant to be.

“Jess and I are just friends at the moment. We are both on really really good terms and we speak almost every day but unfortunately, yeah, we are just friends,” Al explained to WHO at the time.

Weeks after the show wrapped up, Al dished out a few more details on the couple’s separation in the debut episode of his and Taku’s new podcast, Back To Reality.

“It was actually me that broke it off with Jess,” he revealed. “We did speak for probably I think it was like over a week and a bit. Once we left the villa. I did go over to her place, I met her mum. And we watched some anime together.”

“I broke it off so then after that, went to her place and… look I’m not gonna lie like the drive from my house to her house was like probably like over 40 minutes and I remember on the way there I took a wrong turn and added like another like half an hour on to the trip. Well, that’s what my head like, If I want to be with this girl I’m gonna have to do this like every single week. Do I want to do this?”

“I was having doubts before I even got to her place. And then I think after that I um, a few days after that I ended it.”

Mitch and Tina

Mitch and Tina had a second shot at love this season on Love Island, getting back together and finishing the show in a seemingly happy place. When viewers watched the finale, it seemed like the happy couple were going strong, yet with the season pre-recorded fans were curious to see how the relationship was going.

Just a week after the finale aired, the couple took to Instagram to reveal how their relationship played out in the real world, revealing that whilst they did stay together for a few months they had ultimately decided to break up.

After leaving the Villa, the pair continued to tease fans with ‘will they, won’t they’-themed posts. In spite of their seemingly amicable relationship, the pair remain separated romantically.
