Killing Eve star Jodie Comer was left red-faced after a particularly awkward interview with Ellen DeGeneres.
The actress – who hails from Liverpool in the UK and boasts a strong ‘scouse accent’ – adopts different accents for her role as assassin Villanelle, on the hit drama.
Watch Ellen accidentally insult Killing Eve actress Jodie Comer:
However, Ellen appeared a little confused as to Jodie’s acting skills when she tried to praise her for her previous role as Kate Parks on Doctor Foster, referring to her ‘American accent’ on the show, despite her character being British.
“In Doctor Foster you had an American accent, right?” asked the talk show host.
Clearly embarrassed, Jodie replied: “No she was British…”
Cue awkward laugher from Ellen.
“Oh I didn’t do a good job there. She was British, she was from London,” continued the British actress.
Better sack the dialect coach!
Jodie admitted the process of mastering different accents and phrases was far more difficult than she had anticipated during the auditions.
She said: “She has a lot of accents and languages. And in the audition process I was like ‘oh yeah, fine’, and then when I got on set it was like, ‘oh, this is real!’”
