Why did Aaron and Nick Carter not get along?

Aaron and Nick Carter’s strained relationship can be traced back to the tumultuous aftermath of accusations against Nick.

In 2017, singer and actress Melissa Schuman accused Nick Carter of sexual assault, suing him for sexual assault and battery in April 2023, sparking a series of similar allegations from Ashley Repp and Shay Ruth, who also sued the artist in December 2022 for alleged sexual battery.

Nick Carter has denied the allegations of sexual assault. His attorney, Liane K. Wakayama, told USA TODAY in 2023 that a lawsuit filed against him by Schuman alleging sexual assault was a “PR stunt,” adding, “Melissa Schuman has been peddling this tale for many years, but her allegation was false when she first made it back in 2017 — and it still is.”

In 2022, Carter’s attorney also denied Ruth’s allegations, telling USA TODAY the claims were “not only legally meritless but also entirely untrue.”

In February 2023, Nick filed a countersuit against Ruth for her accusations, and in that countersuit, he also sued Schuman regarding the allegations she made against him.

As these accusations unfolded, Aaron Carter, grappling with his own battles with addiction and mental health, made the decision to stand by Nick’s accusers. This stance created a very public rift between the brothers, exacerbating the already fragile dynamics within the Carter family.

The documentary, Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter, delves deep into the complexities of this family feud, highlighting not only the allegations against Nick but also the profound impact it had on their relationship as siblings.

Exclusive interviews with the accusers, Melissa Schuman, Ashley Repp, and Shay Ruth, provide poignant insights into their experiences and the challenges they faced in coming forward.

Moreover, the documentary features accounts from close family members and friends, including Nick’s ex-girlfriend Kaya Jones and Aaron’s former fiancée Melanie Martin, offering a firsthand perspective on the rift caused by intense fame and the accusations.

Through four compelling parts, Fallen Idols explores not only the dark underbelly of celebrity fame but also the complexities of familial relationships and the challenges faced by those who speak out against powerful figures in today’s society.
