With the world having watched and loved Game of Thrones (for the most part), HBO’s House of the Dragon had big boots to fill, and thanks to the old gods and the new, we have not been left disappointed.
The story, which takes place 200 years before the world of Westeros as we know it, explores the journeys and events that will lead to the fall of House Targaryen.
Season one explores political landscapes, family connections, and individual desires that set the scene for conflict. The finale of the first season was dragons galore and it felt like the journey into war had officially begun.
It (not so shockingly) left us all horrified, excited, and also annoyed that we had to wait for season two.
When will season two of House of The Dragon be released?
The second season of House of the Dragon was confirmed early on in season one. The pilot episode broke an HBO record after racking up almost 10 million viewers.
Soon after it was confirmed the highly anticipated second season of the show would premiere on June 17, 2024, in Australia. New episodes will be rolled out weekly on Mondays at 11:15am AEST.

How many seasons will there be of House of the Dragon?
Seeing as how series author George R. R. Martin believes that it will take four 10-episode seasons to properly tell the story, it comes as no surprise that House of the Dragon has already been renewed for a third season.
Here’s hoping we get many more.
What will happen in season two?
After the heart-racing ending to season one, season two takes off right where we left it.
In an interview with Deadline, showrunner Ryan Condal gave an insight into the current season.
“We tell the story in real-time from here forward. The actors are playing these characters until the end. We’re not recasting anybody. We’re not making any huge jumps forward in time. We are now in the Dance of the Dragons, and we’re gonna tell that story,” Condal said.
In regards to who has returned, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno and Rhys Ifans are all back for season two.
New additions joining the ensemble cast include Clinton Liberty, Jamie Kenna, Kieran Bew, Tom Bennett, Tom Taylor, and Vincent Regan, among others.
Will Milly Alcock and Emily Carey be making an appearance?
When we were first introduced to Emily and Milly, who played a young Alicent Hightower and Rhaenyra Targaryen, they quickly became fan favourites.
So, it came as a shock to some people when the actors were abruptly swapped out for older actors throughout the first season.
It has been said that it is unlikely they are making a return. Ryan Condal told Variety that while they are “not closing the door on anything”, they are not part of the current story that they are telling.
Do dragons have minds of their own?
Yes, and we are here for it!
It’s an exciting prospect that the dragons are not just props or weapons but are creatures that have an important part to play. Condal told Deadline that we should “always assume that dragons have minds of their own”.
“If you go all the way back to the pilot, Viserys warns us that the idea that we control dragons is an illusion. He says that to Rhaenyra. He says they are a power that we should have never trifled with.
“That’s one of the cautionary tales that we’re setting up, the stance of the dragons. When you go to war with a bunch of nuclear weapons that have their own sentient thoughts and feelings to a degree, unexpected things can happen,” Condal told Deadline.
