Love Island’s Erin Barnett has been forced to defend her relationship with older boyfriend Mick Russell following cruel comments by social media users.
The 24-year-old took to her Instagram stories to clear up misconceptions that mick was her ‘sugar daddy’ and to finally reveal his age after previously refusing to do so.
“I probably shouldn’t even do this, but I feel the need to. I’ve just been reading some articles about my relationship with Mick. I really shouldn’t have kept scrolling through the articles and comments, but hey… it’s the internet, right?” the reality star began.
“Yes I am dating an older man. No he isn’t my ‘sugar daddy’.”
Erin then went on to explain that a sugar daddy is defined as a “rich older man” who give gifts to a younger woman in return for “her company or sexual favours.
‘I have my own money, I don’t need any man, at whatever age, giving me any gifts or their money. I buy myself better gifts than anyone can,’ the Love Island star explained.
‘I don’t have “daddy issues”, as I have a fantastic relationship with my dad. He’s an amazing man and has always been by my side through everything.’
She explained that ‘meeting Mick has been a blessing’ after a string of toxic relationships, adding: ‘I am so lucky to be with a man who treats me with respect and makes me truly happy every single day.’
The TV star then went on to spill the “big age gap reveal,” confirming that Mick is 43.
Erin ended by explaining that she’s glad she is in a relationship with “a man I can trust and feel safe around” and that he has children from a previous relationship as she fears she will not be able to fall pregnant due to her fertility issues.
The couple first went public with their relationship in December 2018, prior to which Erin was linked to her Love Island co-star Eden Dally.
