Joining Liam Hemsworth and partner Miley Cyrus, Neighbours actress Kathryn Beck has been deeply affected by the Californian fires, needing to flee her Malibu home.
The Australian told The Courier Mail on Monday that she needed to make the decision to leave after witnessing the devastation around her.
The actress was with her baby four-month-old daughter, Eden Blu, while her husband Wayne was away.
“I went outside and the neighbours were all out and they said ‘look behind you’. I turned around and the sky was just all lit up and you could see the fire,” the 32-year-old said.
“It was so windy. It was blowing my body. It was really strong. You could hear it in the house, just that haunted wind sound.
“I was like, ‘we need to get out; there’s no way we can stay here’.”
Authorities had evacuated the Agoura Hills area at 3am (local time) on Friday.
Scared, she packed up her car with the bare essentials for her baby including some breast milk and nappies.
“Even packing up, you’re thinking it can’t be that bad. Of course I’ll be able to come back in a day or two,” she said.
“I called my husband and said, ‘Is there stuff I should take?’ and he said, ‘No, just get out.’ ”
She noted that she left the passports at home.
Beck is not able to return home and doesn’t know if her home has actually survived.
As of Sunday evening, at least 31 people — 29 in Northern California and two in Southern California — are dead and at least 228 people are missing as three fires rage across the state, the Associated Press reported.
