Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling are settling into the Aussie way of life very nicely.
The famous pair touched down in Oz last month with their two daughters, Esmeralda, 8, and Amada, 6, in tow for Gosling’s The Fall Guy shooting commitments in Sydney – and now Eva, 48, is giving fans some insight into their new life in Australia.
Mendes told The Daily Telegraph how her and 41-year-old Gosling’s California-raised girls have developed “Aussie twangs” and that she hopes they never lose them.
The girls are also obsessed with Australian wildlife. “My little one gets in the car yesterday and she tells me, ‘Mamma, do you know that there’s actually more kangaroos than there are people here?’
I don’t know if that’s a fact, but it was fun,” she regaled to the newspaper, adding that they’ve decided to home school the girls for the few months they’re in Australia – unlike Natalie Portman, whose children were enrolled in local schools while she filmed Thor: Love and Thunder in Sydney.
“I don’t do the home schooling myself because I’ve tried that and it’s not one of my strengths,” Mendes admitted.
“We’re lucky enough to have someone we travel with that can continue their education at this point, and what we do is we try to incorporate the city we’re in as much as possible.”
And that includes exploring their temporary new home as a family, too. “We travel a lot and one of my strong beliefs is that you try to always keep a family together, no matter what you’re doing. Especially when the children are small.”
But that’s not to say their girls are completely aware of their blessed, country-hopping existence.
“You know it’s funny, we went to France and we went everywhere – we went to the Louvre and all these things. And if I asked them now, ‘What was your favourite part about France?’ They will say, ‘The fruit plate at the hotel,’” Gosling joked during a chat with Heat magazine.
But just like his wife, Gosling said it’s important for the family of four to be together, always.
“I’m like a dad first, and part of the reason for doing the film [The Gray Man] was this opportunity for us to go to these interesting places and be there with my kids,” he said.
There’s no doubt Mendes and Gosling put their family, especially their little ones, first.
The actress recently opened up to Forbes about their home life and explained how she and The Notebook actor are complete equals in Casa Mendes-Gosling.
“Hopefully it’s showing my girls that there are no gender-specific roles that one must take on and that we are partners in this, and that we’re all partners in this, not just Ryan and I, but our children as well,” she told the publication.
“It’s a team effort every day, so if they see him and I switching off doing certain things that again aren’t specific to stereotypical gender things, I think that just creates balance and harmony,” she added.

So, just what do the duo do with Esmeralda and Amada when Gosling’s not on set? At the moment, Sydney’s “epic” parks are their jam.
From Rose Bay to Bondi and also Sydney’s CBD, the Hitch star is loving her new surroundings.
Her temporary home might also be inspiring her own return to the big screen. In October, Mendes hit back at reports that she’d done away with her acting career.
After finding offence in the reports, she said in an Instagram video, “I wanted to be home with my babies. Fortunately, my other business ventures allowed me to do that more than acting would.”
Her last acting gig was in the 2014 thriller Lost River, in which she signed off with the line, “I never quit.” We’re glad to hear it!
