Margot Robbie has already lived something of a full life—at 27, she’s shot from Neighbours to Oscar nominee, she married the love of her life, Tom Ackerley, and she’s now a successful producer. But here are some things you might not know about the Queenslander.
1. She taught Mike Myers how to shotgun a beer.
He was filming Terminal in Budapest (which she co-produced) and “We had so much fun,” he told Jimmy Fallon. “She’s not who you think she’s going to be.”
Robbie threw a party in a park full of Soviet statues and “introduced me to the joys of daytime drinking,” added Myers, who had only ever seen her onscreen and wasn’t prepared for her Australian accent.
Then she challenged his wife, Kelly, to shotgun a “huge can of Budapest beer … and she’s like, ‘this is No. 13 … I could do ten more!”
2. She once found a foot washed up on a beach.
Robbie was asked by a director to write down the craziest thing that ever happened to her, and hers was that “I once found—and no one guessed that this was me—I found a human foot on the beach in Nicaragua.” She visited the country in 2014.
3. She couldn’t be bothered helping her mum battle a giant snake.
When she was a teenager her mum, Sarie, asked for help with a snake, and she was all, ‘Not right now, Mum.’
“This one time when I was in my bratty teen years, my mum came in and said, ‘Can you help me get this snake out of the house?’ And I was like, ‘Mum, I’m really busy on MSN, no!’ she said on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “She was like, ‘It’s a big one though.’ I was like, ‘I’m so busy, Mum, no!’
“She went away and after 10 minutes I was like, ‘Where’s Mum?’ After a while … I went down and she’s on the driveway and there’s this python, it was huge, it had wrapped its way up her arm and it’s trying to strangle her around her neck.”
4. Instead of lip balm, she uses a nipple cream.
“I have a conspiracy theory that lip balms actually have additives in them to dry your lips out so you keep buying them,” the actress told Elle UK last year.
“But because Bepanthen is just a cream for dry skin, it works. It’s what I’ve used my whole life.” Hey, whatever works.
5. Her nickname is Maggot.
“It started when I was 5, Grade One and I detested it,” she told GQ in 2014.
“By the time I was 8 I realised it wasn’t going anywhere so I embraced it but when I moved to Melbourne people started calling me it and I hadn’t even told them it was my nickname.”
6. She used to work at Subway in Melbourne.
“I was a ‘sandwich artist,’ that’s the preferred title. It’s my favourite ever job, it was so much fun and I was really good at it.”
