It’s being described as the next big British drama to fill the Bodyguard-shaped hole in your viewing schedule, and The Cry is coming to the ABC in 2019. Based on the novel by Helen FitzGerald, the four-part series centres around the disappearance of a baby boy while his parents are visiting Australia from the UK. Check out the trailer below.

Flashing backwards and forwards from the horrifying event, it’s the type of twist- and tension-filled drama that will be perfect to binge when it drops in the new year.

Australian actor Ewen Leslie and Victoria star Jenna Coleman play Alistair and Joanna Lindsay, the parents of missing baby Noah, while Asher Keddie stars as Alistair’s ex, Alexandra, who is also the mother of Alistair’s other child, daughter Chloe (Markella Kavenagh).

The Lindsays have come to Australia to seek custody of Chloe when Noah disappears. To reveal much more about the plot would be to say too much, but trust us, you’ll be gripped.

For Keddie, joining the cast of The Cry was a no-brainer. “I read the book and was overwhelmed by the story,” she says. “I get a lump in my throat even as I remember it. It brought up a lot of stuff up for me as a mother about what motherhood means. I was so involved in it and it was so compelling.”

The Cry will debut on ABC in 2019.
