The YOU star’s wife, singer and doula shared the announcement with her Instagram followers on February 11, admitting she and Penn were just about ready to give up trying for a bub before they discovered she was pregnant.
“On the road again,” the singer, 36, captioned the Instagram photo of her baby bump. “Pregnancy after loss is a whole other thing. After two miscarriages in a row, we were ready to call it. I stopped trusting my body and started to accept the fact that I was done. As a birth attendant, I’ve seen and heard it all. It takes everything I’ve got to detach lovingly from the losses I’ve been present for and be in my own experience.
The DOMINO bandmember, who is already mum to her 10-year-old son Cassius continued: “When I was pregnant at 25, I knew nothing. I had no community. I dove in blissfully unaware about birth and its mysteries. Now, with 10 years worth of experience to pull from, I treasure my birth community and the knowledge I have. You’re already teaching us how to stay in the day in a way we’ve never had to, little one. Thank you.”
While this is the Gossip Girl actor’s first biological child, he’s already the best stepdad to his wife’s son who she shares with musician ex Morgan O’Kane. In a recent interview, Domino opened up about the star’s parenting skills, admitting he cares deeply for her son.
“He doesn’t have to be ‘dad’ so he can have more fun with him,” the doula told Us Weekly in October 2019. “It’s really nice. The stepparent thing is definitely unchartered territory for me cause I didn’t grow up with one, but … he takes care of him really well.”
Domino— whose sisters are “Girls” star Jemima and “Mozart in the Jungle” actress Lola— and Penn met back in 2014 and married in an intimate ceremony at a Brooklyn courthouse three years later. While very few attended the nuptials, the newlyweds celebrated with their friends and family months later, hosting a large outdoor reception in upstate New York.
After revealing they’d tied the knot, Lola shared a congratulatory photo to Instagram, revealing she couldn’t be happier for the loved up duo.
“When someone gets married in a courthouse, it’s really an open invitation to everyone but the beautiful bride to explore all that fashion has to offer. Here, I try a look simply called “Pants,” as Cassius goes for “That Dude from #incubus” and Jemima experiments with “Off to Therapy!” Congratulations @dominokirke. We love you,” she captioned the post.
