How Aussie mum turned health struggle into ‘life-changing’ edible beauty range

As a teenager you feel invincible. Health worries are for old people and the idea a doctor could hand you a life-changing diagnosis is nowhere near front of mind.

But that’s exactly what happened to Anna Mitsios when she was just 18.

A trip to her doctor and a few routine tests uncovered that she had Type 1 Diabetes, a lifelong autoimmune condition. It meant she would need daily insulin injections and to keep a keen eye on her health moving forward.

Initially Anna started looking for natural solutions and herbal remedies to manage her condition and, as well as these changes to her lifestyle, her diagnosis eventually saw her choose a career in the health industry, as a naturopath.

“Back in 2014 I was working as a naturopath in a fertility clinic in Sydney,” Mitsios said. “I was recommending clients use natural products on their skin. I was seeing all types of women come through with PCOS, endometriosis, infertility and I was putting them on some hard core regimes because I was really wanting them to use natural products for their skin.”

There was one problem though. She couldn’t find many skin products out there that were pure enough, edible even.

“I started to make it my mission to make these products myself,” Mitsios said.

Mixing ingredients in her kitchen she started sharing them with her friends and family and it wasn’t long before she developed a core product line, which became the beginning of her skincare brand, Edible Beauty.
