Who Is Sonia Kruger?
Sonia is a TV host and dancer who debuted on the silver screen as Tina Sparkle in Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom. She was an entertainment reporter and radio host for several years before she became a household name hosting Dancing with the Stars. She experienced a bit of controversy on her eleven-season run, particularly when she made a jab at Geoffrey and Brynne Edelsten’s age gap.
Nonetheless, that controversy didn’t stop her from going on to host more reality shows like Big Brother and The Voice, as well as the morning show Today Extra. Sonia is bubbly, charming, and a bit of a prankster, so it’s hard not to love her! On top of that, she’s an excellent dancer who’s not afraid to bust a move now and then.
Recently, Sonia’s signed on to be a judge on Australia’s Got Talent, and we can’t wait to see her in the judges’ chair for once!
Strictly You: The Secret To Sonia Kruger’s Weight Loss
This year, Sonia launched a new fitness app called Strictly You (and yes, that is a clever play on Strictly Ballroom).
According to the website, the app gives subscribers access to “music-based workouts, a great dance routine, and a revolutionary meal plan”, which Sonia has mentioned is tailor-fit to each user.
Speaking to an Australian publication, Sonia shared that part of the reason she created the app was because of how many people have asked her for the “secret” to keeping her arms and legs so toned.
“People were sort of saying to me ‘What do you do? What do you eat? What workout do you do? How do you get your arms to look like that?” she said. “Even now, if I post a picture on Instagram from The Voice I get so many questions from people about what I’m doing, what am I eating, what sort of workouts do you do, so it felt like a natural step to do this and to share it“.
What Kind Of Workouts Do You Get Out Of Strictly You?
With Strictly You, users will be taught workouts that resemble dance choreography from the merengue to the cha-cha. Sonia says she’s not so much a fan of going to the gym, and it’s dancing that keeps her fit.
“If you look at most dancers, they have great physiques, they’re very athletic”, she said. “For me, a lot of it was to do with the fact that I was a dancer for a long time and if you do this (mimics holding up her arms in dance pose) you end up developing those muscles“. And she’s right! Dancing is proven to help people lose weight by boosting their metabolism!
She also assured would-be users that all the routines are achievable, motivating, and fun – this isn’t your boring old gym routine! These are all at-home workouts that can be completed within 25 minutes!
She told KTLA 5 Morning News that with Strictly You, you’ll still do a lower body (that’s the legs and butt) and an upper body workout (that’s arms, shoulders, and upper back), but it won’t be like “a warrior workout”. “We won’t turn you into a ninja warrior, but we’re gonna get you up and moving”.
Sonia’s Diet
Of course, diet and exercise come hand in hand. Sonia told 9Honey that she doesn’t follow a strict diet plan, but she tries her best to avoid carbs, especially processed ones like pasta, bread, and white rice. Her diet philosophy is relatively simple and lax.
“I try to do the right thing”, she says, “But every now and then I fall off the wagon and into a jar of jelly beans. Every now and then you’re gonna crack, so you might as well just go with it. [I try to be strict] 80 percent of the time, and then 20 percent of the time just have a blowout”.
According to News.com.au, Sonia usually starts the day with a latte and yoghurt with honey and nuts, then has a green salad with lean meat like chicken and fish for lunch. For dinner, again she’ll have vegetables and something lean like fish. Sonia tries to avoid red meat, and she tries to snack healthily with almonds, apples, and macadamia nuts.
