According to the synopsis, in the new season, Dulcie (Box) and Eddie (Sami) are in Darwin investigating the death of Eddie’s former policing partner, Bushy, when a body is discovered in a remote town.

Creators, executive producers and writers Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan are rightly very pleased with themselves about the casting.

“Luke Hemsworth is joining our cast as croc-wrangling Territory icon, Jason Wade,” they said in a statement. “We’re feeling very happy with ourselves about this because he’s perfect. It’s perfect casting.”

Where will Season 2 of Deadloch be set?

Fans have been holding their breath for news of a second season of Deadloch after its widespread global success, not to mention the local acclaim it garnered. In July 2024, it was finally confirmed the show would be back for a second season – and this time, the girls are heading to the Northern Territory.

“I mean, it’s pretty obvious from the way Season 1 ended that we’re gonna head up north,” writer McLennan previously told WHO.

“We’re just really happy to be basking in the success of season one,” added McCartney as the cast reunited at the 2024 AACTA Awards, where the show won numerous awards including best acting in a comedy for Box and best screenplay in television.

“We are so excited to head to the Top End for a sticky, sweaty and filthy Season Two,” they both added following news of the shows renewal. “Both of us are thrilled to be teaming up again with comedy angels Kate Box, Madeleine Sami, Nina Oyama and Alicia Gardiner and we can’t wait to work with a new bunch of cast members and some massive f–king crocodiles.”

Who stars in Deadloch?

Season one of Deadloch saw Kate Box and Madeline Sami join forces as Dulcie and Eddie; two cops tasked with the mission of solving a killing spree.

“Originally, we were going to cast ourselves in those roles,” Kate McLennan tells WHO, “then we realised that those characters needed actors who were actually able to act…which we can’t do.”

“Madeline and Kate just take it and elevate it and find so much nuance and silliness and heart and camaraderie with each other … they’re amazing. I mean, [Dulcie and Eddie] are such a gift to write … and we get to draw on elements of our own personalities, but amped up.”

Joining Kate and Madeline in season one is a long list of talented Aussie names including Nina Oyama, Alicia Gardiner, Pamela Rabe, Katie Robertson, Kartanya Maynard, Mia Morrissey, Tom Ballard and Susie Youssef – and expect no less for season two.

As the gang heads up north, the second season will also introduce new cast members Steve Bisley, Shari Sebbens, Jean Tong, Genevieve Morris,  Byron Coll, Nikki Britton, Anthony J Sharpe, Blake Pavey, Damien Garvey, Ngali Shaw, Bev Killick, Ling Cooper-Tang, Ursula Yovich, Syd Brisbane, Ines English and newcomer Lennox Monaghan  – with more to be announced.

What will Season 2 of Deadloch be about?

Shortly after season two was confirmed, Kate Box, who stars as Dulcie spoke with WHO about what fans can expect.

“You’re going to get some pretty magnificent Eddie and Dulcie antics,” she explained. “But it’s just going to be a lot sweatier, which is going to be quite difficult for Dulcie.”

“I read the first couple of episodes and it is totally wild – the new characters are just so fantastic and The Kate’s has done an extraordinary job of introducing the madness of a new community, which is going to be really fun.”

“It’s gonna be that same classic Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan mixture of humour and writing,” adds Madeleine Sami, who tells WHO audiences can expect “a bunch of great characters and a gripping mystery again.”

“I think the last season did it so well… keeping everyone on their toes in terms of how the mystery unfolds. And so I feel like they can expect more of that [in season two].”

Whilst season one may have been set in the moody and cold Tasmanian town, there’s no denying the switch up north will impact the feel of the show – and the dynamics between the two detectives.

“That [the NT] is Eddie’s world, where she comes from, and suddenly you’ve got Dulcie entering that world and she is so much more out of her depth than in Season 1,” Kate explains. “Dulcie is from the very beginning struggling with the heat and the water and all the animals that come along … she’s very much a fish out of water.”
